Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Detectives are currently investigating a homicide at 3523 Clardy Court. The incident occurred on Thursday, January 15, 2009, at 1:37 p.m., in the Eastway Division. The victim has been identified as Quantez Lerone Stukes.
Eastway Division officers responded to a call for service in reference to someone being shot. When officers arrived on scene they located Mr. Stukes in the backyard of his house, lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Mr. Stukes was pronounced deceased on scene.
Initial statements from witnesses indicate that the suspect, a white male, rode a bicycle onto Clardy Court and fired several shots into the air from a handgun. The suspect then got off the bicycle and ran towards Mr. Stukes, who was outside his house, and fired at Mr. Stukes, striking him at least once. The witnesses state that the suspect then fled the area on his bicycle.
Witnesses have named the suspect and state that he and Mr. Stukes have had an on-going feud. At this point in time there is no reason to believe that this is a random act of violence.
Eastway Division officers have detained a subject in the Eastland Mall area. He is currently being held in police custody and when he is formally charged in this case his name will be released by the Public Affairs Office.
Homicide Unit detectives are on scene canvassing the neighborhood and Crime Scene Search units are processing the scene for physical evidence.
