WSOC: Police raided what they described as illegal high-end gambling operation in west Charlotte on Friday.
Inside what appeared to be a rundown warehouse, investigators said they found $40,000 cash, gambling paraphernalia, guns, moonshine, and a high-tech security system. Officers also arrested three people during the raid early Friday morning. This case is just the most recent in a series of gambling raids in Charlotte. Officers said gambling often leads to more violent crimes.
"High-stakes poker, you're gonna draw the wrong crowd, and you're lookin', places like this are known for homicides and robberies, so you're putting yourself at risk," said Officer Steve Selogy. Police said more charges and arrests were pending.
