UPDATE: The victim, Shamon Devonta Phillips died at Carolinas Medical Center at 8:06 a.m. as a result of the injuries she sustained in this morning’s shooting on Cross Roads Place. Family notification has been completed by Homicide detectives.At this time, Tairmi Yohaun Thorne is being charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The case will be presented to the District Attorney to determine if additional charges will be filed against Mr. Thorne.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Detectives are currently investigating a shooting that occurred on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at approximately 3:45 a.m. The incident took place at 2928 Cross Roads Pl, in the Westover Division. The victim has been identified; pending family notification her name will be released.
Westover Division officers responded to a report of a person being shot. When officers arrived on scene, they located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported by Medic to Carolina ’s Medical Center where she is currently in critical condition.
Based on preliminary witness statements, the victim and her boyfriend were returning home from a night out. He said they were sitting on couch when the gun discharged; striking her in the head. The boyfriend immediately called 911 and advised his girlfriend was shot. He was present when officers arrived on scene and was transported to Police Headquarters where he is cooperating with detectives.
Crime Scene Search Investigators are currently processing the scene of the shooting and Westover Division officers are canvassing the neighborhood.
