· CMPD’s goal for July Fourth was to ensure people had a safe environment in which to celebrate the holiday, whether they were in the center city or neighborhoods
· The operations plan was thorough and successfully implemented
· Size of crowds at the stadium for the fireworks show and around the center city were larger than they were last year
· Officers aggressively enforced laws and intervened early to avoid any escalation
· No other significant events in other divisions took place
· Excellent partnerships made things run especially well – Department of Social Services with the juveniles and the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department in particular provided key support
Arrests
- As of 2:30 AM, there were 31 adult arrests in the center city
- Last year, there were a total of 42 adult arrests in the center city
Juveniles
- Prior to midnight and the youth protection ordinance curfew, 2 juvenile arrests (disorderly conduct and obstructing street). One of the juveniles was 15 years old and the other was 14.
- Curfew violations: 9
Fireworks/911
Media notifications coupled with e-mails to our communities urging people to call 311 instead of 911 with noise and fireworks complaints had the desired effect. The majority of these calls were directed to 311.
