Detectives Investigate a Homicide in Westover Division

Case Update: The victim identification and family notification for this morning’s homicide on Courtney Ridge Lane has been completed by Homicide detectives. The victim has been identified as William P. Henderson, 42.

Mr. Henderson left his home in Gwinnett County, Georgia on Tuesday July 21, 2009 and was traveling to Columbia, SC. At this time, he was driving his 2004 Grey Infinity G35 with GA Tag AWM-5153; which is the same vehicle he was found deceased in. Mr. Henderson was expected to return home on Friday July 24, 2009. When Mr. Henderson did not return home and could not be contacted by phone; he was reported missing. The missing person report was taken in Gwinnett County, Georgia.

Based on the preliminary investigation, Mr. Henderson had been shot. Detectives do not believe he was shot where the vehicle was located and are continuing their investigation to determine exactly where the shooting occurred.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Detectives and the Arson Task Force are currently conducting a homicide investigation at 4925 Courtney Ridge Lane. The incident occurred on Monday, July 27, 2009, at 6:40 a.m. in the Westover Division. The victim has not been positively identified; pending identification and family notification their name will be released

Shortly after 6:30 a.m., on July 27, 2009, Westover Division officers responded to an assist fire call in reference to a vehicle fire. After the Charlotte Fire Department extinguished the vehicle fire, officers located a body in the trunk of the vehicle that had been set on fire.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit and Westover Division officers are conducting a canvass of the neighborhood. Crime Scene Search is on scene as well, photographing the scene and collecting physical evidence.
