Case Update: November 3, 2009: Earlier today, CMPD Homicide Detectives arrested Damine Russell Fair, for the murder of James Demarel Hardrick II. Mr. Fair was taken into custody without incident and is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.This case remains under active investigation. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Detectives are investigating a shooting at 2745 Freedom Dr , which left one person dead. The victim has been identified as James Demarel Hardrick II, DOB 07/20/1990.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m. (EDT), on Sunday, November 1, 2009, Metro Division officers responded to a 911 call for service in reference to shots fired in the parking lot of the McDonalds. When officers arrived on scene, they located the victim in his vehicle in the parking lot next to the business. Medic arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased shortly after arrival.
This investigation is in its early stages. Detectives with the Homicide Unit, ADW Unit, and Gang Unit are on scene and will continue to work the investigation. Crime Scene Search is on scene as well, photographing the scene and collecting physical evidence.
Based on initial witness statements, the victim was shot subsequent to an altercation in the parking lot. This incident does not appear to be a random event, but rather an ongoing dispute. Homicide Detectives are in the process of interviewing multiple witnesses. Officers are currently looking for a white Ford Expedition with a sunroof, driven by a black male, in relation to this case. The vehicle was last seen heading inbound on Freedom Drive.
