Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives are conducting an investigation into a stabbing which left one person dead. The incident took place inside a vehicle which was parked along the 5100 block of Swearngan Road, which is located in CMPD's North Division. The call for service came in at 8:43 p.m. today.
North Division officers responded to a call for service placed by the resident at 5116 Swearngan Road in reference to a male subject knocking on his door who was bleeding from the result of some type of assault. When officers arrived on scene, they located the victim lying on the porch suffering from apparent bodily trauma, later determined to be stab wounds. The victim had a faint heart beat and life saving techniques were begun in an ambulance before the victim succumbed to his injuries at 8:54 p.m.; the victim was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic.
Based on initial witness statements, the victim was inside a dark colored vehicle, possibly a Chrysler Pacifica. He was with at least one other person at the time of assault. There was an altercation inside the vehicle which led to the stabbing of the victim, who then fled the vehicle on foot in an effort to avoid further harm. The victim made his way to 5116 Swearngan Road, where he collapsed on the porch.
The suspect vehicle fled through the neighborhood in the direction of Beatties Ford Road. At this time there is every indication to believe that this is not a random act of violence and that all parties involved had a prior relationship.
