Case Update: Saturday, March 3, 2010: Homicide Detectives determined that the incident was a domestic disturbance involving a dispute between the victim who was the ex-husband and the wife’s current boyfriend.
The victim in this case is identified as Satmar Colmenares, 33. His family has been notified. Detectives worked through out the night interviewing witnesses and processing the scene for physical evidence. No criminal charges are being sought at this time. This case will be reviewed with the Mecklenburg County District Attorneys Office early next week.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives are conducting an investigation into a domestic violence related shooting which left one person dead. The shooting took place at 6201 Breckfield Court in the Steele Creek Division. The call for service came in at 8:21 p.m., on Friday, March 5, 2010. The deceased has been identified; his name is being withheld pending family notification.
Steele Creek Division officers responded to a call for service placed by the homeowner stating that a known subject, the deceased, came to the house and threatened the resident. When officers arrived at the home, they located the deceased lying outside the residence on the front porch suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medic pronounced the deceased on scene. Based on initial witness statements, the male resident was home with his girlfriend, who is the former wife of the deceased. The deceased arrived at the home and began threatening them.
A struggle ensued and during the altercation, the deceased suffered a fatal gunshot wound. The residents remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation. They will be transported to police headquarters to give detailed statements. This is not a random act of violence, as all involved parties are known to each other.
Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to photograph it and collect physical evidence.
