Detectives Make an Arrest in Homicide Investigation on Teal Point Drive

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives have made an arrest in the death of an infant which occurred early this morning. The call for service originated at 2:54 a.m., from 3436 Teal point Drive. The victim has been identified as Zione Washington, DOB: 08/25/2008.

Eastway Division officers responded to an Assist Medic call in reference to a small child not breathing. The call was placed by the child’s mother, Shamika Washington. When Medic arrived, they transported the infant to Presbyterian Hospital , where he was pronounced deceased at 3:35 a.m. Zione Washington also had evidence of bruising on his body at the time of death.

Ms. Washington and Mr. Michael Damon Walker voluntarily arrived at Police Headquarters for questioning after they were notified of Zione’s death. Homicide detectives obtained a confession from Mr. Walker, who is the boyfriend of Ms. Washington and he has been charged with First Degree Murder and Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury for the death of Zione Washington.

Ms. Washington is not being charged in this case. She had left the apartment and upon her return she discovered that Zione had lost consciousness. She called 911 immediately upon discovering his condition.
