Armed Robber Convicted at Jury Trial; Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison

On July 28, 2011, Richard Brian Cloud, 31, was found guilty of Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon in the Mecklenburg County Courthouse.

After the jury returned the guilty verdict, The Honorable F. Lane Williamson, Superior Court Judge, sentenced Mr. Cloud to 97-126 months in prison.

On the night of June 10, 2009, Mr. Cloud attempted to steal the victim’s vehicle by pointing a gun at the victim and demanding his truck. The victim and his passengers were able to escape from Mr. Cloud without further harm.  Cloud’s prior convictions include: (1) felony breaking or entering, (2) felony possession of stolen goods, (3) felony possession of marijuana, (4) breaking or entering a motor vehicle, (5) assault by pointing a gun, (6) assault, and (7) false imprisonment.
