DNA Assists Homicide Detectives Solve 2007 Robbery & Murder Case

On May 2, 2007, Anita Rychlik, a 45-year old motel manager was shot in the head and killed during an armed robbery.  She was working for the Thrift Motel, which is located at 3700 North Tryon St.

In 2007, witnesses stated that three suspects approached the security guard who was later identified as Mrs. Rychlik’s husband. The suspects pistol whipped the security guard and entered the room he shared with his wife. A struggle then gunshot were heard a short time later before the suspects ran from the location.

CMPD has announced they have solved the homicide and have arrested Bobby Johnson, Antonio Lee Chaney and Joshua Raphael Chaney. All three suspects have been charged with the robbery and murder of Anita Jean Rychlik.

New information and DNA evidence linked the three suspects to the murder.  All three suspects have been apprehended without incident and have been charged with Murder, Armed Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery.
