Robbery Unit investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have arrested Joseph Faulk after CMPD Detectives determined Faulk was responsible for a series of armed robberies in the Charlotte, NC area on April 3rd and April 4th:April 3, 2012: 2:30 am- The victim in that case stated that he was outside of his apartment located in the 6400 block of Four Winds Drive when the suspect put a revolver to his neck and removed money from the victim. Officers recovered a cell phone near the victim’s apartment that the suspect left behind.
April 3, 2012: 5:30am- a second victim stated he was walking to his vehicle located in the 5400 block of Springset Drive when he was approached by a suspect wearing red bandana who produced a handgun and took the victim’s wallet and cell phone.
April 4, 2012: 2:00am- a victim stated he was walking to his car in the 5400 block of Springset Drive when the suspect, who was wearing a red bandana approached him at gunpoint and demanded the victim’s wallet.
April 4, 2012: the telephone recovered in the first robbery case was processed through the CMPD’s Computer Forensic Unit. Pictures were recovered from the cell phone showing the suspect and a gun similar to the weapon used in the robberies. The phone was registered to a number from Brooklyn, NY.
April 4, 2012: 12:15 p.m. - Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) Detectives observed a subject with an outstanding warrant in a vehicle in the area of Farm Pond Road. Detectives conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and Joseph Faulk who was a passenger in the vehicle gave detectives consent to search him. Detectives recovered a red bandana in his pocket and gun in his waistband, both items are believed to be the items Faulk used in the robberies.
It was also determined that Faulk was the subject in the photographs retrieved from the cell phone located at the original robbery scene. The gun located on the traffic stop appears to be the gun captured in the photographs retrieved from the cell phone. Faulk identified himself in the photographs and advised he was from Brooklyn, NY.
Faulk has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon and probation violation. Anyone with additional information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
