CMPD Makes Arrest in 2008 Homicide

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit have arrested and charged Branden Marell Williams for the murders of Kevin Javier Cano and Jamie Aubrey-Marquis Gill, which took place on November 7, 2008.

Kevin Cano and Jamie Gill were inside a vehicle stopped at a traffic signal at Cedar Street and Trade Street shortly after midnight when they were shot multiple times.  They were both pronounced deceased at the scene. The shooting occurred a few yards from Johnson & Wales University campus.  The spray of bullets struck two city buses and damaged cars parked along the street where a local tavern was open with customers. 

As a result of the initial investigation, Richard Henry Jordan was arrested the day of the murders and charged with two counts of Murder.  He has been in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office since. Homicide Unit detectives continued their investigation and recently established Mr. Williams’ participation in the shooting.  Branden Williams was arrested earlier today and charged with two counts of Murder.   This is Williams' 12th arrest since July 2009.
