Man Killed at Intersection of West Blvd & Remount Rd

UPDATE II:   Jonathan T. Ervin was arrested April 12, 2012 by members of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team at 1926 Woodcrest Avenue. Mr. Ervin was wanted in connection with the stabbing of Antoine Bernard Mayes Cureton.  Mr. Ervin is charged with Murder.

UPDATE:  The victim has been identified as Antoine Bernard Mayes Cureton.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit and A/D/W Unit are conducting an investigation into a stabbing that occurred at the intersection of West Boulevard and Remount Road which left Antoine Cureton dead. The call for service came in at 10:53pm on Tuesday, April 10, 2012.

A CMPD officer was working an off-duty job near the intersection of West Boulevard and Remount Road when the officer was flagged down by a citizen in reference to a male subject that had been stabbed. The officer located the subject nearby who was suffering from apparent stab wounds. The male was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries where he subsequently died a short time later.

According to witnesses, a black male with shoulder length dreads wearing a grey t-shirt or tank top, blue jeans and possible white tennis shoes was seen fleeing from the scene. The K-9 Unit responded and attempted to track the suspect. Patrol units also circulated the area but officers were unable to locate the suspect.

Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine if anyone saw or heard anything in the moments leading up to the stabbing that will aid in the investigation.  Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
