Security Guard Shot & Killed on Albemarle Rd

UPDATE:  Homicide Unit Detectives identified Habacu Rodriguez Lopez in the murder of Richard Snyder. The Violent Criminal Apprehension Team then located and arrested Mr. Lopez, who was charged with Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon.   The Chevy truck seen fleeing the scene has been recovered.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit and ADW Unit are conducting a homicide investigation at 5846 Albemarle Road in the CMPD Hickory Grove Division. The call for service came in at 2:16 a.m., on Tuesday, June 5, 2012. The murder victim has been identified as Richard Snyder.

Hickory Grove patrol officers responded to the El Paisano Restaurant and Bar on Albemarle Road in reference to one subject shot. Upon arrival, they located a male in the front parking lot of the business suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Medic arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. Also on scene, was a female that was transported to CMC Main with non-life threatening injuries.

The victim is an employee (security guard) of the business and was attempting to ensure that several male subjects causing a disturbance were leaving the property when the victim was shot.   The suspect vehicle is a small, green two door truck, possibly a Chevy, that was last seen fleeing outbound on Albemarle Road.

Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are additional witnesses to this incident. Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence. The Gang Unit also responded to the scene as well as representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team.
