CMPD Announces Crime Increase in Charlotte, NC

Crime Statistical Summary for June 2012:

Through the end of June 2012, the preliminary total for Index Offenses was 4.4% higher than this time last year.  Property crime increased by 2.9% while violent crime increased by 14.5%.

  • 25 homicides were reported through June, compared to 18, resulting in an increase of 38.9%.
     
  • 857 robberies were reported compared to 733, resulting in an increase of 16.9%.
     
  • 111 rapes were reported compared to 106, resulting in an increase of 4.7%.
     
  • 1567 aggravated assaults were reported compared to 1378, resulting in an increase of 13.7%.
     
  • Burglary overall was down -14.0%, (3534 compared to 4111) with a decrease of -5.1% in residential (2801 compared to 2952) and a decrease of -36.8% in commercial cases (733 compared to 1159).
     
  • 1037 vehicle thefts were reported compared to 960, resulting in an increase of 8.0%.
     
  • Total larceny cases increased by 9.4% (10948 compared to 10005) with the larcenies from auto down by -0.2% (3829 compared to 3835).
     
  • 98 arson cases were reported compared to 100, resulting in a decrease of -2.0%.
