Woman Charged with Involuntary Manslaughter after Hitting & Killing Pedestrian

UPDATE:   Detectives with the Major Crash Investigations Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Racquel Belinda Mallory charging her with Involuntary Manslaughter for her involvement in the fatal crash that occurred early Saturday morning.  Mrs. Mallory has been arrested and served the warrant.   She is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

On July 21, 2012 at 3:07am Metro Division officers responded to a call for service for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 2100 block of Beatties Ford Road.

The victim, Ricky Neal, was crossing the road when he was struck by a Chrysler PT Cruiser traveling south.  The driver of the Chrysler, Racquel Mallory, immediately stopped and called 911. Mr. Neal was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with critical injuries. Detectives with the Major Crash Investigations Unit were called to the scene to conduct the investigation. Racquel Mallory was arrested on the scene and charged with Driving While Impaired. She was uninjured in the collision.

At 9:17am Ricky Neal was pronounced deceased by Dr. Coric at CMC from the injuries he sustained in the collision.  Family notification has been made. The collision is under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Major Crash Investigations Unit (704) 432-2169.   Detective A.J. Oberer is leading the investigation.
