Fatality Crash Investigation


On July 31st, 2012, at 2:08 p.m. Metro Division patrol officers responded to a call for service for a pedestrian struck by a Norfolk Southern train.  The pedestrian was walking along the outer wooden portion of the train tracks when the conductor of the train observed the pedestrian.   The pedestrian was walking inbound with his back towards the train.  The train was also traveling inbound and attempted to warn the pedestrian numerous times by blowing the train whistle.  The pedestrian never acknowledged the attempts and was struck in the back by the train, knocking the pedestrian off of the tracks and into the gravel.  At 2:18 p.m. the victim was pronounced deceased by Medic.

*Update - The pedestrian has been identified as Ronald Gray Treadwell, DOB: 04/11/1958

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigations Unit were called to the scene to conduct an investigation.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Major Crash Investigations Unit at 704-336-8862.  Detective K. Allred is leading the investigation.
