Mecklenburg Leads State in Fatal Car Crashes for 2011

Last year Mecklenburg County led the state in fatal car accidents, according to a report from AAA of the Carolinas. 67 crashes were reported in Mecklenburg last year, up over 68% from 2010's 46 crashes.

AAA's report points out the most dangerous counties to drive in based on vehicle miles traveled. Though Mecklenburg's crash rate has risen, the numbers for North Carolina as a whole have dropped.

AAA of the Carolinas recommends planning ahead of time for the Democratic National Convention, which takes place September 3-6. Also recommended is getting a copy of the DNC road plan in advance. The possibility of increased accidents during the DNC is likely, especially because of the substantial amount of visitors that will be unfamiliar with the area.
