UPDATE: 16 Year-Old Charged With Death of Charlotte Teenager

Police have charged Damien Wright, 16, with first-degree murder for the  shooting death of 13 year-old Khalil Malik Cousart. A motive has yet to be released, but police say the victim knew his accused killer.

A teenager was killed early Tuesday morning / Wednesday night near Parkway Avenue and Tuckaseegee Road. According to investigators, a passing motorist in the area was stopped by a young male about 1:00 AM. The male alerted the motorist to the victim, who called police.

When police arrived they found Cousart had been shot in the chest at lease once. Investigators found 2 shell casings at the scene, while neighbors claimed they heard a minimum of five gunshots. Cousart was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center where he later died. The young man that flagged down the motorist fled the scene before police arrived. Wright is jailed held in Mecklenburg County without bond.

This is the fourth case this year of a teenager shot and killed in Charlotte.
