Charlotte Car Crash Kills Pedestrian

Seventy-two year-old Fredger Allen Bratton was killed Saturday night after being struck by a car at the 3600 block of South Tryon Street.

Bratton was struck by a 2004 Nissan Altima shortly before 10:00. The vehicle was driven by a 62 year-old woman whose name has not been released. According to police, neither alcohol nor excessive speed were factors in the accident, though Bratton was not crossing the street when he was struck.

Saturday's accident makes the 18th pedestrian death in Charlotte this year. If trends continue, that number will surpass the 24 pedestrian fatalities in 2011.

This incident is still under investigation. Authorities have asked anyone with information on this case to call Charlotte-Mecklenburg police at (704) 432-2169.
