Charlotte Man Robs, Stabs Cab Driver, Steals & Crashes Taxi in SouthPark

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a 41 year-old man that allegedly robbed and stabbed an elderly cab driver before stealing his taxi on Friday morning.

At about 7:40 this morning, Brian Chandler stabbed a taxi driver in the head, face, neck, and arms in an attempt to rob the man. The incident occurred at the intersection of Park Road and Fairview Road in the SouthPark area. The taxi driver works for Carolina's Cab Company.

After the robbery, Chandler stole the cab and crashed it into a telephone pole nearby. He fled on foot after the crash to an apartment complex close to the accident. At the apartment, Chandler cut off the electronic monitoring device he was wearing for domestic violence charges he recently incurred. Police arrested him at the complex shortly thereafter.

The cab driver ,Gary Hinson, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center and is expected to recover. Chandler was also taken to CMC for injuries he sustained during the car crash and is also expected to recover.

Chandler is jailed in Mecklenburg County and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, vehicle theft, and interfering with an electronic monitoring device.
