Officer-Involved Shooting in Kannapolis Leaves Police Asking for Witnesses

The North Carolina SBI is taking over an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that
occurred Sunday in Kannapolis.

Authorities say they responded to a call at a home on Leazer Street at about 2:30 Sunday morning. When Kannapolis police officers arrived at the home, they discovered a woman suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Officers were able to locate the shooting suspect at his home on North Main Street, where an altercation took place between a police officer and the suspect. During the struggle, an officer shot the suspect, who also has life-threatening injuries.

Now Kannapolis police are asking for two witnesses to come forward. Authorities there believe that two motorists witnessed the shooting involving the police officer. No other names or details have been released at this time.
