Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives are conducting an investigation into a physical assault which resulted in the death of the victim, Alexander Harris George. The incident took place in the street outside of 2309 Lola Avenue, in the Eastway Division. The assault was witnessed by CMPD Eastway Division officers in the area at 11:16 p.m., on Saturday, April 17, 2010.
Eastway Division officers were conducting a zone check in the area when they observed the suspect, Kelly Foster, punch Mr. George. As officers approached the scene, they saw Mr. Foster run through the crowd and into the residence at 2309 Lola Avenue.
Mr. Foster then ran out of the residence and hid on the top of a shed which was located in the backyard. Mr. Foster was subsequently arrested and charged with Assault Inflicting Serious Injury. Medic was dispatched to the scene and transported Mr. George to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment of his life threatening injuries; he succumbed to those injuries at approximately 4:30 a.m., on Monday, April 19, 2010.
Detectives with the Homicide Unit have signed a Murder warrant for Mr. Foster who remains in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
It is important to note that this incident was not a random act of violence. Mr. George and Mr. Foster were known to each other prior to the assault. Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to photograph it and collect physical evidence. Detectives with the A/D/W Unit assisted in this investigation from its inception.
