Man Stabbed & Killed on Monroe Road

UPDATE: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Detectives arrested Randy Edward Cook and charged him with the murder of Leonard Heard.

Mr. Cook will be transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office where he will remain in their custody.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives are conducting an investigation into a physical assault which resulted in the death of one person. The victim has been positively identified; his name is being withheld pending family notification.

The incident took place in the vicinity of the 3900 block of Monroe Road in the Providence Division. The call for service came in at 12: 58 a.m., on Wednesday, May 12, 2010.

Providence Division officers responded to a Person Down call for service regarding an individual lying in the street on Monroe Road. When officers arrived, they located a subject lying in the road suffering from an apparent stab wound; he was subsequently transported by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center-Main where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff.

Based on initial witness statements, there were two males fighting a short distance from where the victim was located. Responding officers encountered two subjects in the vicinity of this incident. These subjects have been transported to the Law Enforcement Center, where they are cooperating with the investigation. It has yet to be determined what role, if any, these subjects played in this incident.

Crime Scene responded to the scene to photograph it and collect physical evidence. Detectives with the ADW Unit are assisting with this investigation.
