CMPD Investigating Homicide on Camrose Drive

Case Update: The victim, Michael Pernell Smith, has died as a result of his injuries.

Deterio Jatavius Brice, was arrested by VCAT for the murder of Mr. Smith. Mr. Brice is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. This case remains under active investigation.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg ADW and Homicide Detectives are conducting an investigation in the North Tryon Division, which left one person seriously injured. The incident took place at the 500 block of Camrose Drive.

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. on May 16, 2010, North Tryon Division officers responded to a call for service regarding one person shot. When officers arrived on scene, they located the victim lying on the ground suffering from several gunshot wounds. Medic transported the victim to Carolinas Medical Center-Main to receive treatment for life threatening injuries.

The initial investigation shows that this incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute among known parties. This investigation is in its initial stages. ADW Unit and Homicide Unit Detectives are actively investigating this incident and following up on all leads. The limited suspect description at this time is a black male, last seen leaving the scene in a white or light-colored Lincoln Town car.
