Woman Stabbed to Death on Pennsylvania Ave

CASE UPDATE: The suspect in this case, Tyesha Imani Roberts, has been arrested and charged with the 1st Degree Murder after being interviewed by Homicide Detectives at the Law Enforcement Center.

The events which lead to the death of Ms. Hall began with an ongoing verbal altercation between her and the suspect, Ms. Roberts. Both the suspect and victim have a child fathered by the same man. The suspect and the victim had argued earlier in the day regarding the amount of time that the father was spending with each of their children.

The victim left after this initial altercation and later in the evening, the victim returned to the residence and began another verbal dispute which escalated into a physical altercation. The suspect stabbed the victim during the altercation. The victim was transported to the hospital by a friend and died at the hospital.

Homicide detectives were able to develop the name of the suspect very early in the investigation. Their attempts to locate her lead them to a relative’s residence. While at the relative’s house, the suspect arrived and turned herself in.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives are conducting an investigation into a stabbing which left one person dead at 621 Pennsylvania Avenue, located in the CMPD Metro Division. The victim has been positively identified as Laqueda Antoinette Hall.

Metro Division officers were notified that the victim was being transported by vehicle to a hospital. When the call for service came in to 911, the vehicle was near the intersection of Beatties Ford Road and Rozzelles Ferry Road. Upon arrival at Presbyterian Hospital, the victim was pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries she sustained.

Based upon information gathered from witnesses, officers determined that the victim went to the residence on Pennsylvania Avenue in order to retrieve some personal items. After Ms. Hall arrived, she was involved in an altercation with a female at the home. During the course of the altercation, the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times. The victim was then placed into a vehicle and transported to Presbyterian Hospital.

The suspect, Tyesha Imani Roberts, fled the scene in an unknown direction of travel, by unknown means. This incident involves parties who were known to each other prior to this incident; this is not a random act of violence. The investigation is in its initial stages. The witnesses will be interviewed at police headquarters. As additional information develops, it will be released along with a list of any charges through the CMPD Public Affairs office.

Crime Scene Search responded to the scene and to the hospital to collect physical evidence. Detectives with the Gang Unit and the ADW Unit are on-scene assisting.
