Pizza Hut Employee Kills Two Armed Robbers

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit and Robbery Unit are conducting an investigation into a robbery-homicide at the Pizza Hut, located at 5422 Independence Boulevard in the Independence Division. The incident was reported at 11:16 p.m., on Monday, September 27, 2010.

Family notification has been made for both victims. They have been identified as Gregory James Hardy and Dauntrae Wallace. Detectives are actively seeking any information in reference to the third suspect. The only description is that police are looking for a black male.

Independence Division officers responded to a call for service in reference to a robbery in progress at Pizza Hut. There were two employees in the back of the business cleaning up for the night when three black males entered the business through the front entrance. The suspects attempted to rob the business by forcing the employees into the cooler, when one employee turned and fired his personal weapon at the suspects. The employee shot and killed two of the robbery suspects, while the third suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction of travel. Medic pronounced the two gunshot suspects on scene. The employees who were inside are being interviewed at this time.

Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to collect physical evidence. Two handguns were recovered from the armed suspects. The K-9 Unit responded to the scene as well to assist in the search for the third suspect.
