Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives are conducting a homicide investigation at 8925 Lenox Pointe Drive in the Steele Creek Division. The incident was reported at 6:30 pm, on Thursday, November 18, 2010. The victim has been positively identified as Derek Roman, 26.
CMPD Steele Creek Division officers responded to a call for service placed by a neighbor who noticed that the victim’s apartment door was open. When the neighbor went to the door to see if the victim was home, the neighbor saw the victim inside the apartment and unresponsive. The neighbor then called 911 to request that police come out to investigate. When officers arrived on scene, they located the victim inside his apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic at 6:35 p.m.
The investigation is in its initial stages. Detectives are interviewing residents of the complex to determine if they heard or saw anything suspicious in the hours leading up to the call for service. Crime Scene Search responded to collect physical evidence and photograph the scene.
