Teacher faces sex charges

Jimmie Grubbs, a 66-year old man and former teacher in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system did not appear in court today as scheduled. More students are coming forward claiming sexual abuse by Grubbs. Police have indicated the number over 15 students at this point.

WCNC reported:

A former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) teacher accused of sexually assaulting more than a dozen minors was supposed to face a judge Monday, but now that won't happen.
Nearly 15 alleged victims have come forward since the case against former teacher Jimmie Grubbs, 66, went public.

Last week Grubbs was arraigned in federal court on four federal charges.
Monday he was scheduled to face a district court judge for his alleged crimes, but officials did not get a writ to get them permission to transfer him from the custody of the U.S. Marshall's Office into state custody.

Last week the judge granted him a court-appointed attorney in his federal case. Those four charges stem from several trips he took to Myrtle Beach where the victims said they were molested.

Grubbs also faces charges from victims who said they were abused in classrooms at Bradley Middle School, at his home and at his church. The charges of abuse in Sunday school classes came out last week when several adult victims came forward claiming they too were molested in the 1980s.

Officials said Monday's confusion is merely a paperwork issue and prosecutors said they plan on sending Grubb's case straight to the grand jury when they convene in about three weeks.
