Drive-by Shooting in West Charlotte

UPDATE 5/9/06- 17 year old Woodrow Dempson has died from gunshot injuries two weeks after being hospitalized. He had a gunshot wound to the head.

Robert Camp (L) is now charged with murder since Dempson died.

UPDATE 4/26/06: CMPD has arrested and charged one man in connection to the shooting which left a 17 year old male in critical condition. Camp faces several charges including first degree attempted murder.

Investigators say 21-year-old Robert Delane Camp (L) was involved in the shooting of 17-year-old Woodrow Dempson.


WBTV is reporting that police are investigating a shooting which happened in West Charlotte around 3:45 this afternoon. The shooting took place along the 2800 block of Morson Street.

Woodrow Dempson, 17, was shot in the head and taken to Carolinas Medical Center. He is in critical condition.

Homicide detectives with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department were called to the scene to investigate. A police spokesman told WBTV News 3 that two armed men drove through the neighborhood firing several shots. Witnesses told police the suspects were in either a dark green, 4-door Dodge Intrepid or Chrysler Concord.

The suspects are described as two black men. One is about 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds with shoulder-length dreadlocks. He was wearing a Cleveland Cavaliers jersey and baggy pants. The second suspect had short, cropped hair.
