Shots Fired Near School

We all know criminals rarely think of others while committing crimes. This was the case today when a road rage incident ended up in gunfire near Villa Heights Academic Center- just east of uptown Charlotte.

According to a report by
WCNC, 30 kids were outside on a playground a few feet away from the shooting. This really bothers me. If our children cannot feel safe in school- where can they feel safe? I realize this did not happen "in" the school but it was close enough for these kids to have the scare of their life. Thank goodness noone was hurt!

As reported by WCNC:

The shooting happened around 1 p.m. on the road in front of Villa Heights Elementary School on Everett Place. Police said the shooting stemmed from a case of road rage. Police believe the driver of a Cadillac was the victim and several bullet holes were visible along the car’s bumper and trunk. Officers said the shots were directed at the car and not at the school.

Parents and children on the playground at the time were terrified. "When I saw the gun I knew it wasn't fireworks,” said parent Julie Shook. “And when they saw me tackle my own child, they immediately realized there was reason for panic."
