Teacher Charged with Sexual Battery

It outrages me to hear about teachers having sexual contact with their students. It is sick and I believe they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. As parents, we put our most precious assets in the care of educators. They are supposed to teach, guide and mentor our children- not hurt them.

I say this because another Charlotte-Mecklenburg teacher,
Jeffrey Thomas Leardini, 31, was charged with two counts of sexual battery today. He was a sixth grade teacher at Community House Middle School located in south Charlotte. (Ballantyne area)

Leardini resigned in April after five students accused him of touching them inappropriately. When school administrators learned of the allegations, they interviewed the students and Leardini quit within 24 hours. Leardini was a language arts teacher and had been with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools since 1998. He was slated to take over the gifted program and become a writing coach at the middle school next year.

Police said Leardini turned himself in. Leardini posted his $3,000 secured bond Thursday and was released from custody.
