Some people are really low! Shakeyra S. Cousart (left) is one of them. She is charged with using two teenagers- a 13 & 15 year old to help her pick up drugs obtained with phony prescriptions. Detectives arrested her as she walked out of a courtroom in Charlotte for similar charges in February.
According to WSOC-TV, Cousart is accused of calling in prescriptions for hydrocodone to the Walgreens Drugstore located at 4701 South Blvd. and The Medicine Shoppe located at 1520 West Boulevard. The prescriptions were called in using information from a local physician without his knowledge, police said.
WCNC interviewed Captain Bruce Bellamy with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. "To reach out to a juvenile to assist in the commission of a crime, that is wrong," said Captain Bellamy. "Pharmacists were familiar with her and so it would be kind of difficult for her to go and get these fraudulent prescriptions," Bellamy said. He also said the kids may not have known they were breaking the law.
Detectives from the Vice and Narcotics Division's Pharmaceutical Drug Diversion Unit charged Cousart with:
*2 cts. of Obtaining a Controlled Substance by Fraud
*2 cts. Attempting to Obtain a Controlled Substance by Fraud
*3 cts of Hiring/Employing a Minor 13 years old or less to Commit a Controlled Substance Offense
*1 ct of Hiring/Employing a Minor 15 years old or less to Commit a Controlled Substance Offense
*4 cts of Contributing to Delinquency of Juvenile
*1 ct. of Medicaid Fraud
