Man shot during robbery attempt

A group of people shot a man during a robbery attempt in east Charlotte early Tuesday morning. The shooting happened just after midnight at an apartment complex in Cedars East Court, just off Idlewild Road.

The victim was walking when a group of three or four men attacked him and tried to rob him, according to police. They said seconds into the robbery the victim was shot in the head by one of the suspects. Police are not sure if the victim tried to fight off his attackers.

Emergency workers took the man to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police called in canine units and searched the area for the suspects, but they were unable to find them. The suspects were last seen leaving the complex and are described as wearing long shorts and t-shirts, and one had a red bandana over his face. Police have called back the canine units and have gone back to police headquarters to examine the evidence for further clues.
