CMPD vice and patrol units were out in force Thursday night and early today in a prostitution crackdown across northern and western Charlotte, NC. The operation began around 7:30 pm and ended at 3 am this morning. Police report making 17 arrests of women for prostitution and other charges, however, I was able to find more in the arrest records for today.CMPD focused their efforts on four communities where they have received many reports of prostitution -- Smallwood, Camp Greene, Druid Hills and J.T. Williams. Police say prostitution is often accompanied by other crimes, and they hope their overnight operation will have an impact on criminal activity in the four communities.
Camp Greene is in west Charlotte, off West Wilkinson Boulevard. Smallwood is in northwest Charlotte, near Beatties Ford Road. Druid Hills is in north Charlotte, between Statesville Road and Graham Street. And the J.T. Williams community is in north Charlotte, off Statesville Road near Interstate 485.
