A West Charlotte neighborhood is on edge following two murders on the same street in the last 24 hours. Yesterday, Byron Shane Lisenby, 28, was murdered on Booker Avenue. Today, a drive-by shooting kills another man a block away from the first murder.
Police said it is unclear if today's murder is connected to yesterday's murder but neighbors said the shootings happened a block apart- and they are convinced that the same person is responsible for both incidents. Tempers and fear are running high in the neighborhood after the second shooting, so police called in extra help for crowd control.
Police say today's victim came to Booker Avenue to hang out with friends. That's when a car drove by and the people inside started shooting. The victim was killed and two others were wounded. Police stopped a car a couple blocks away and brought the people in for questioning- but there's no word yet whether those people were arrested or if charges will be filed against them.
Friends said the victim was in his mid-20s and had just gotten married. Police have not released his name. Police said there's no indication this victim has anything to do with Saturday's murder of Shane Lisenby. Police did say this might be people "marking their territory" after Lisenby's shooting, and today's victim could have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
In the first murder, Lisenby went to his blind aunt's house to check on her since she'd recently been robbed. Police say Lisenby's cousin got into an argument with a neighbor. The fist fight turned into a gun fight. Family members say Lisenby was an innocent bystander and shot when he didn't leave the area. Now, neighbors said they fear violence in the area will escalate in the aftermath of the two murders. Source: WCNC
