Frederick Antoine Givens, 28, was slated to appear in court this week on domestic violence charges but now he faces a more serious charge. Givens was arrested over the weekend and charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of his ex-girlfriend, Latrina Daniels.
Latrina Daniels, 34, was shot just after 10 pm on Saturday at a home where Givens lived on Rollingwood Drive (near Clanton Road) in southwest Charlotte. Daniels died at Carolinas Medical Center. Frederick Givens was arrested at his home and taken to Mecklenburg County's central jail. He was denied bond.
It was not immediately clear whether Daniels and Givens had a history of abuse between them but Givens was found guilty of assaulting a female in 2000, court records show.
Three years later, he also was found guilty of violating a domestic-violence protective order. Givens was given 150-day sentences and probation. He was also ordered to be screened for a domestic-violence counseling program called NOVA.
On June 19, he was charged with violating another restraining order. The name of the person who took out the order against him was not available as that case was pending, with an appearance scheduled for this Friday in District Court.
Latrina Daniels' slaying was part of a deadly weekend for Charlotte. Three others were slain amid gunfire. Two men -- 25 and 28 years old -- were gunned down less than 36 hours apart on the same street in northwest Charlotte. A third man's body was found Saturday morning on a trail behind an apartment complex in the 3200 block of Shamrock Drive in east Charlotte. He, too, had been shot. Source: The Charlotte Observer
