Police are investigating what they say are signs of a dog-fighting operation based in East Charlotte, NC. No charges have been filed, but police say a probe into the case is continuing. The investigation began after the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Animal Control Bureau was contacted Saturday about a dog fight in the 7900 block of Monfreya Court, near East W.T. Harris Boulevard.
When police arrived, they said five pit bull dogs at the residence were fighting with each other. Police say they separated the dogs, but they say one of the pit bulls broke free and attacked the others. According to police, several of the dogs suffered serious wounds, and one dog died. Police say that when they were at the residence, they found evidence of a dog-fighting operation.
The owner of the dogs told several Charlotte TV stations that the animals were show dogs, not used for fighting. According to police, they received information linking the case to another residence, in the 7500 block of Creek Ridge Road, about a mile from the Monfreya Court scene- off Village Lake Drive. Police say they seized unspecified items from the Creek Ridge Road residence. If you have any information, please call CrimeStoppers at 704-336-1600. Source: The Charlotte Observer
