Copper wire thieves targeted a house being built by volunteers for Habitat for Humanity- located in West Charlotte. Volunteers are in the midst of their annual Building on Faith Campaign.
According to police, the thieves slipped into the unfinished home overnight and made off with hundreds of dollars in the valuable metal.
According to Habitat for Humanity, they are not immune to the copper thieves who have been raiding construction sites across Charlotte for months. In an effort to keep up with the rise in copper wire cases, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department assigned a full-time detective to scrap metal thefts.
