A convenience store clerk tried to stop two men from stealing beer early this morning. She was unable to stop the men from leaving so she ran outside to get the license plate number and she was run over by the thieves' car!
It started when two men walked into the Sam's Mart on Little Rock Road near Interstate 85 in west Charlotte around 2 am. Surveillance tape shows the men grabbing cases of beer and heading for the door.
Emergency crews gingerly wrapped up the shaken, bruised and battered woman and took her to the hospital as police hovered around the Sam's Mart. The clerk was released from the hospital this morning and is expected to be okay.
The theft and the assault on the clerk took place just minutes after a police officer walked out of the store following a routine security check. Customers said they're angry that the thieves who stole the beer compounded the crime by ramming the clerk with their car. The clerk wasn't able to get a complete license plate number, but police said the thieves- two black men, left in a gold Pontiac Grand Prix. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600. Source: WSOC-TV (Video)
