Man Tried to Lure Children in Pineville

Pineville police believe a man who tried to lure two young girls in his truck is still in the area. It started last Sunday when two girls, ages 9 and 10, were riding their bikes in their Pineville neighborhood. Police said a red truck with two men inside pulled up next to them. The men began asking the girls questions, then, using candy, tried to lure them both into the truck. Both girls ran inside and told their parents.

“When they start telling these kids to get off their bikes, 'come here, I have candy for you' even a nine-year-old knows this doesn’t feel right, it doesn’t seem right,” said Lt. Embery with the Pineville Police Department.

Police said just one day later in the same neighborhood, the same truck pulled up next to the same group of children and then sped away. That is when the girls and their parents went to police. “It raised suspicion to see that truck back at the scene where the same groups of kids were playing. They just starred at the kids and drove off," said Embery.

The Pineville Elementary school is feet away from where these incidents occurred. Police tell us the principal there will send an advisory home with students today. Police said they received nine calls as of Thursday morning from people who had spotted this truck. Police said they have already validated some of those calls.

“We always have to look at worst case scenario and create the highest alert,” said Embery.
Police have stepped up patrols in and around that area. Right now they are just looking to question the men who were in that truck.

Police are looking for a red, low rider truck with silver flames down the side. If you have any information, please call the Pineville Police Department 704-889-2231. Source: 6NEWS
