Police said a cab driver shot and killed his passenger early Wednesday morning. The driver told police he pulled the trigger because he was also the victim of a crime. It started around 2:30 a.m. when that cab driver was called to west Charlotte to pick up 20-year-old Michael Antonio Hamilton. Once inside the cab, police said that Hamilton pulled a gun on the driver and demanded money. The driver handed over the cash, and then pulled out a gun of his own.
Seconds later, at least one shot was fired, killing the 20-year-old passenger. When 6NEWS arrived on the scene, there were several other cabs in the area. One cab driver said the driver in need radioed out a universal emergency code for all cab drivers, signaling that he needed help.
The cab driver is now at police headquarters being questioned as a robbery victim and a homicide suspect. Since 2001, Hamilton was arrested numerous times for vehicle theft, robbery and many other charges. He served 10 months in jail in 2004. Source: WCNC
