The First Citizen's Bank in the 6500 block of Morrison Boulevard (across from the Southpark Mall) was robbed around 1:15 pm today.
The suspect was armed with a handgun and demanded money from the tellers. As you can see from the photos the FBI released- the man is not wearing any disguise. When he is caught- he is doomed. The camera caught him showing a gun and another camera caught him stealing from the vault!
The bank robber fled the bank and carjacked a woman from her Jeep. The robbery suspect then went to the Belle Acres establishment on South Boulevard near Clanton Road in the stolen Jeep. He got into an argument with the company’s owner because he was told to get off the property. Shots were fired but no one was injured. Bullet holes were said to be found in a car and on the ground.
Police located the suspect's car behind the Carousel Club in the 3000 block of South Boulevard. Police said he dumped the money bag and probably stuffed all the cash in his clothing. Police used the helicopter, K-9's, and searched by foot but were unable to find the suspect. Photographer Jonathan Jones captured some great shots of the crime scene!
Sedgefield Middle School and Sedgefield Elementary School were on lockdown for several hours, but buses and students walking home were allowed to leave just before 5 pm. Students are normally released at 3:45, but only parents with proper identification were able to pick up their children. Residents in the Sedgefield area were advised to stay inside their homes during the search. Officers still want residents to be on alert and not approach the man if they see him.
The FBI says the bank robber is 30-years old and approximately 300 lbs. He is about 6' 2" tall. He was wearing a black shirt and black denim pants.
