Rodney Segar, 36, was found lying on the roadway- shot in the chest around 9 pm last night. The incident occurred on the Brookshire Freeway ramp to Independence Blvd. MEDIC took Segar to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The Charlotte Observer published some additional information on the murder of Rodney Segar aka Shariff Hakeem El Bey. Apparently, the police believe this was not a random shooting and Segar was targeted when he was shot. Police said Segar was part of the Moorish Nation, a black separatist movement. Police would not talk about a motive in the killing, but a police report says investigators found about $700 worth of cocaine at the scene.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
