A local preacher pled guilty to mismanaging money from his own church just as his trial was about to begin. The Rev. John Walker of Macedonia Baptist Church was indicted by a federal grand jury in April.
On Monday, he stood before the judge and dozens of church members and pled guilty to three counts of bank fraud, five counts of tax evasion and lying to federal agents.
Prosecutors said Walker spent money belonging to the north Charlotte church on hotel rooms, airline tickets, dental work and Viagra. He faces a maximum sentence of 90 years in prison and/or a 4 million dollar fine. Walker will be sentenced at a later date. Source: WSOC-TV & WCNC
