Man Arrested on Dog Fighting Charges

An Indian Trail man was arrested today by the Union County Sheriff's Office. Stanley Max Plowman Jr., 26, is charged with dog fighting and baiting, cruelty to animals, restraining dogs in a cruel manner, possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm by a felon.

A couple riding in a hot air balloon spotted the dogs and contacted police. Last Thursday, animal control seized 36 pit bulls from Pullman's home. Some of the dogs were beat up with parts of ears missing and other injuries.

Union County officials say the dogs are dangerous because they were bred and trained for fighting so the dogs will be euthanized. Plowman is a convicted felon and has served prison time for a common law robbery charge in 2004 and forgery convictions from 1998.
