Six Women Indicted for HUD Fraud

Six women were indicted in Federal Court this week for making false statements about their income in order to obtain federal and state assistance benefits. According to a statement released today by U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert, all six women are charged with theft and making false statements while participating in various government assistance programs, including the Charlotte Housing Authority’s Housing Choice Voucher Program.

Temeria Denise Alexander, 36, is charged with one count of theft of $26,548 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and seven counts of making false statements to HUD from April 2002 to April 2006. Alexander is also charged in separate counts with theft of money from several programs offered by the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services (DSS). Alexander is charged with stealing $11,757 from Food Stamps, $3,134 from Medicaid, and $4,523 from Work First Family Assistance. Temeria Alexander is an employee of the United States Postal Service.

Lavoris McIver, 37, is charged with one count of theft of $20,587 in HUD money, and one count of making false statements to HUD from October 2003 to April 2006. McIver has been an employee of the United States Postal Service since September 2003.

Sahia Nicole Seaman, 30, is charged with one count of theft of $17,572 from HUD and one count of making false statements to HUD from November 2004 to March 2007. Seaman has been an employee of the USPS since September 2006.

Kawanna Michelle Rucker, 33, is charged with one count of theft of $29,302 from HUD and one count of making false statements to HUD from March 2002 to October 2005. While receiving housing assistance from CHA, Rucker concealed her income from employment at Presbyterian Hospital.

Sonya Charisse Douglas, 35, is charged with one count of theft of $21,803 from HUD and one count of making false statements to HUD from April 2002 to July 2005. While receiving housing assistance from CHA, Douglas concealed her employment at the Alexander Children’s Center and her annual income of nearly $36,000.

Banetta Martin-Williams, 29, is charged with one count of theft of $12,346 from HUD and one count of making false statements to HUD from June 2003 to April 2005. While receiving housing assistance from CHA, Martin-Williams under reported salary information concerning her employment at the Bellsouth Operations Center.
