12/01/07: Update: Trooper Wren's condition is improving but he is still in serious condition.
NC State Highway Patrol Trooper Jeffrey Wren (R) is in serious condition at Carolinas Medical Center after he crashed into a tree in Union County yesterday evening following a chase.
According to Investigators, the suspect, Jesse Joplin (Photo) refused to stop when Trooper Wren tried to pull him over. Trooper Wren followed the car for about three miles before both of them ran off the road and hit a tree.
Officers investigated the scene of the crash and found drugs in Joplin's car. Joplin is in the Union County jail under a $75,000 bond.
