The Union County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a murder-suicide that is believed to have occurred on January 4th in a home located in Weddington on Tree Hill Road.According to a press release, deputies responded to a request for a well-being check yesterday around 4:00 pm. An officer responded to the residence and received no response from inside the residence.
Based on information provided to officers, the deputy entered the residence and found the body of Christa Higgins Childester, 34, in the attic of the residence. In an adjoining bedroom was the body of her daughter, 9-year old Sarah Elizabeth Higgins.
Evidence found in the house indicated that Childester killed her daughter last Friday and then took her own life. Police will not say how the two died, however, they said Childester left notes detailing the crime along with specific instructions regarding her personal affairs.
